The Dinky Toys brand was acquired by Airfix Products in 1971. These miniature Dinky Toys, aimed at competing with Matchbox, Hot Wheels and Corgi Juniors, were manufactured in Hong Kong on behalf of Airfix and launched in 1980. At this time the Dinky and Meccano ranges were in dire straits, and Airfix itself went bust in early 1981 and was acquired by Palitoy. Probably because of the company's troubles, these 'Airfix Dinkies' made little impression on the shelves of UK toy shops. As a result, they are now quite rare and collectible.
