Price: 34.25

With the opening of the M1 motorway in 1959, Midland Red started a non-stop service between London and Birmingham. This vehicle, the CM5, was built specifically for that purpose by Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Company Limited (BMMO), being a version of their C5 coach upgraded for higher speed motorway work.

In red with black roof and silver grille, bumpers and base, and pale yellow interior with silver-grey steering wheel. 'Birmingham-London Motorway Express' decals on the roof sides in gold and red, and gold Midland Red logos on the body sides. At the front is a London-Birmingham destination board. The wheels have the early plain flat spun hubs with black tyres and suspension.

Condition is good-to-excellent, with just a few little chips and rubs on raised points. The logos on the lower sides are perfect; the ones on the side of the roof have some loss along the top edge as the pictures show. The tyres are original and very good; one of them has what at first glance looks like a crack but which I think is actually a manufacturing defect.
