Ref: 36909

Marks and Spencer issue
Excellent, box Good

Price: 195.00

In 1978, Marks and Spencer commissioned Corgi to produce an exclusive range of sets, to be sold in their stores under their own St Michael brand. The models were selected from the Corgi range, but produced in different liveries and with the Corgi name removed from the baseplates. The sets were packaged in red St Michael lidded window boxes.

This Grand Prix set consists of:

- Fiat X1/9 in lime green with black roof and interior. Opening doors, and opening engine cover revealing a chrome engine. 'Formula 1 Racing Team' label on the bonnet.

- Hesketh-Ford 308 in white with chrome suspension and other parts. Racing number 24, 'HESKETH' and stripe labels in red, white and blue.

- Elf-Tyrrell Project 34. Blue, with chrome engine and other parts. Racing number 4, 'ELF' and 'First National' labels in blue and white.

- Land Rover LWB. Cream, with red roof and tan interior. Black roof rack and ladder, silver headlights and grille. With tow bar and opening rear door. ''Formula 1 Racing Team' labels on the sides.

- Lotus F1, in black, with gold plated suspension and other parts. Gold and black labels with racing number 1, and 'Texaco' and Goodyear' logos. 'John Player Special' cast on the underside. On a gold diecast trailer.

The models are in excellent condition with no play wear other than a micro chip on the front on the Hesketh and another on the edge of the Lotus rear wing. The labels are excellent with very little ageing. The box has light wear and creasing on the lid, and unfortunately the window has a split. However, the inner packaging is excellent, complete with scenic illustration inside.

These sets were discontinued in late 1979, so nowadays they are scarce items.
