Dinky 751 Police Box

Dinky 751 Police Box

Ref: 37784

Fair, unboxed

Price: 4.50

Police boxes were used as shelters for police officers on duty, and as a means for them and the public to contact the police station via a telephone which was accessible from the outside. The Dinky model is the classic police box designed for the London Metropolitan Police in the late 1920s, and phased out at the end of the 1960s.

Nowadays the Met police box is more recognisable as the Tardis from the TV series Dr Who. The Tardis was intended to change its appearance to blend in with the prevailing surroundings: unfortunately it went wrong in 1963 and became 'stuck' as a police box which is anything but inconspicuous in the 21st century!

The Dinky model is in dark blue with silver 'POLICE' sign and windows etc. and is fair condition with general paint chipping. Originally launched in 1936 as catalogue number 42a, it was renumbered to 751 in 1954.
