This magnificent castle was made by Elf Toys of Stourport-on-Severn in the 1960s, or possibly in the early 1970s by their successor, Joy Toys.

The keep, towers, walls and gatehouse are all made from plywood and simply slot together; a plan is included to show where everything goes. The gatehouse has a drawbridge which has real chains and can be wound up and down using a handle at the side. A separate plywood ramp is supplied to lead up to the entrance. Other features include opening gates to the inner courtyard and dungeon, a ladder to access the ramparts, and a fabric St George's flag (although King Arthur probably pre-dated this flag by a few centuries!).

The base unit is made from plywood with a hardboard top, and when inverted, forms a box in which to keep all the other bits.

This rare model is in very good condition, and is a perfect setting to display your collection of Britains Knights! A Britains archer is shown on top of the gatehouse in the pictures to give an idea of scale.

Please note that this is a heavy item and is only suitable for delivery within the UK. As with all our toys, this may not conform to modern toy safety standards so should not be given to children to play with. Figure not included.
