Matchbox 58a AEC BEA Airport Coach

Matchbox 58a AEC BEA Airport Coach

Ref: 31460

Excellent, Box Good

Price: 680.00

This is the final issue of the BEA coach, in dark blue with silver badge and headlamps, black base and black plastic 'knobbly' wheels on rounded axles. The 'British European Airways' decals have black lettering on a white background and with a red BEA logo to the front of the lettering.

This example is in excellent condition with no paint chips; there is a small patch to the rear of one rear wheel arch where the paint has been sprayed slightly thinly. The decals have not been applied very carefully and are a little skewed, with a corner missing from each. The axles are almost rust-free.

The star of the show, however, is the box which is the very scarce type D with colour illustration, only produced for a short time near the end of the model's run. Printed by Pembroke Abbey, it is good-to-excellent; complete and without creasing although the picture faces are bowed inward very slightly. There is some slight wear to the edges of the end flaps where the box has been opened and closed, and there is a 10mm tear in the hinge of one main flap, and a 5mm tear in the other. The box nevertheless displays very well.

A good opportunity to acquire this rare item at a reasonable price - one of these sold for £1500 at Vectis Auctions in January 2017!
