Schuco
Schuco is one of the oldest makers of toy vehicles and other mechanical toys, originating as Schreyer and Co. in 1912 in Nürnberg, Germany. The early tinplate clockwork toys were extremely popular, including the 'Pick-Pick Bird' over 20 million of which were sold over 5 decades. Model cars joined the range in the 1930s, transitioning to plastic and diecast during the 1950s. Famous post-war products included the 'Varianto' wire track system, the small scale Piccolo range and the Micro Racer. In the 1970s Schuco experienced financial difficulties and became bankrupt in 1976. The name was subsequently acquired by GAMA, and Schuco re-emerged as an independent company in 1996 and continues to produce high quality collectors' diecast models including reproductions of its classic toys of the past.
